Do loyal Republicans turn their backs on George W. Bush when they find out that he turned his back on the idea of John McCain and Sarah Palin in the White House?

According to a new book — excerpts of which are to be published in the next issue of GQ Magazine and detailed Tuesday — former President George W. Bush was incredulous upon learning that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) was having trouble drawing a crowd and called his campaign a “five-spiral crash.” He also asserted that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was “not even remotely prepared.”

After being informed that President Bush had to cancel his appearance at a McCain rally, Bush asked, “He can’t get 500 people to show up for an event in his hometown? He couldn’t get 500 people? I could get that many people to turn out in Crawford.” And upon learning that Sarah Palin was the Vice-Presidential nominee, Bush inquired, “What is she, the governor of Guam?”

At least he didn’t ask if Palin was a supermodel, because that’s what I thought she was before I started touching myself to her.

Update 9/17/09: Apparently the guy writing this book is a dumbass, so whether or not Bush thought McCain and Palin were a bad idea is debatable. But let’s be honest, the entire nation thought it was a bad idea.
