Without Facebook

I recently deactivated my Facebook account just to step away from ONE FORM of social media while I prepare for dental school finals. I was wasting my time on Gizmodo when I came across an article titled “Without Facebook, We’d Have No Sense of Self: Agree or Disagree?” and it immediately caught my attention. The article just makes a point or 2 about how Facebook reassures us about our very own existence. What I really liked was a comment made by Andrew Tarantola:

…I don’t think Facebooking prompts any form of meaningful self reflection. Logging the minutia of your life isn’t a self-reflective act, it’s self-adulation. It’s you thumping a virtual chest, screaming into the darkness of the Internet that “Hey, I’m here! I did this! Ain’t it cool?”

Does simply listing every single thing you do help you mature or grow in any manner? Is the cataloging of your existence accompanied by critical thought on those actions with an eye for future improvement? If not, then all you are doing is seeking approval–a cheap slap on the back from your FB friends to convince you that your place in the universe isn’t as insignificant a speck as everyone makes it out to be.

Disclaimer: This opinion is coming from a guy who also was never, ever, never on Facebook until Blam told him that he couldn’t work here unless he got one set up.”

I feel like this is talking about me. Or the other 900 million users. I’m guilty of wanting to convince myself that I’m more than just an insignificant blip on the timeline of the universe. Maybe I just have self esteem issues. Do we have to assume that in 20 years it is the norm to have a Facebook – to have it represent and confirm your very existence the way old photo albums or stories from your aunt about how you broke your wrist as a kid while riding your bike did 15 years ago?

Where are we going with this and is it really making our lives BETTER? I don’t think EASE or CONVENIENCE was ever the issue. If anything, we’re becoming Japan: A socially inept nation who puts priority to interacting with any form of a digital display over making intimate human connections.

Proposition 8

Proposition 8 was overturned today in California by the Ninth Circuit Court. This means that the amendment to only recognize marriages between 1 man and 1 woman is considered unconstitutional. I will admit that I have mixed feelings. Before the flaming and trolling starts, I am what many consider a liberal. I believe in equality, a fair playing field, and all that stuff. What I’m confused about is what’s wrong with recognizing “MARRIAGE” as something between 1 man and 1 woman? I think that’s what “marriage” is.

In my OPINION, lesbians and gays should have the same rights, benefits, and services offered to them as anyone else. However, I PERSONALLY do not think that the word (and it’s just a word) “marriage” should be redefined as anything other than a union shared between 1 man and 1 woman. THAT BEING SAID, I think homosexuals should be allowed to have civil unions or domestic partnerships and should be allowed the same tax filing, spousal benefits, healthcare coverage for significant others just like everyone else.

Here’s the description of Proposition 8 from Wikipedia:

Proposition 8 (ballot title: Eliminates Rights of Same-Sex Couples to Marry. Initiative Constitutional Amendment; called California Marriage Protection Act by proponents) was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment passed in the November 2008 state elections. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the Declaration of Rights, to the California Constitution, which provides that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

Unions between 1 man and 1 woman should be considered “marriages,” while ALL UNIONS should be RECOGNIZED by California for records, documentations, and programs. That’s my opinion. My problem is my obsession with the word. The problem with everyone else is a moral dilemma. UNFORTUNATELY, SINCE “civil unions” and “domestic partnerships” are not as “GOOD” (they do not receive the same benefits) as “MARRIAGE,” I’m glad this proposition was repealed.

Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples,” Judge Reinhardt wrote in the decision. The Court concludes that the law violates the 14th Amendment rights of gay couples to equal protection under the law. Gay marriage will still not be allowed in the state, leaving time for Prop 8 defenders to challenge the decision. “

If you think about it, scientifically speaking, homosexuality is unnatural. Not in the sense that it’s “WRONG,” but in the sense that homosexuals can’t procreate. It’s impossible. NATURALLY, your genes and your lineage ends because if you’re a homosexual, you can’t reproduce. It’s science. “Marriage” was something implemented by our human society (or the bible, whatever) to CLASSIFY or DESCRIBE the union of a man and a woman and their decision to be together and have children. HOWEVER, it’s NOT MY BUSINESS, or anyone else’s, to tell anyone who they can or can’t be with and who they can or can’t love. If they’re law-abiding, tax paying, hard working Americans, I say let everyone get the same recognition and benefits.

My conclusion is that all civil unions, domestic partnerships, and marriages should be recognized and considered equal in terms of all the benefits and hardships. At the same time, “MARRIAGE” should never be anything else than a union between 1 man and 1 woman.

Farewell, Japan?

It pains to say me, but for years now researchers have anticipated a continual and scary population decrease to the great country of Japan.

New figures released by the government estimate people aged 65 and older will make up nearly 40 percent of the population of Japan 50 years from now. Even more troubling, the country’s population is expected to shrink by 30 percent, with birth rates showing little signs of improvement.”

The country seems to have little interest in growing big families. Commitments to work and the economy takes emphasis away from marriage and having children. It’s a country of aging elderly who have no one to take care of them but robots made by Honda. When the Empire of Japan vanishes into the ocean all that will be remembered are robots and really crazy pornography.

Seriously, Police?

Like I said before, we are charging people for all the wrong crimes in America. Vikki Myers was caught masturbating topless in her car, but instead of charging her for public indecency (which probably isn’t fitting) or giving her a medal for being awesome, police found an unregistered pistol in her car and booked her for that. So random. Hey, police, why don’t you go catch the rapists, murderers, and child molesters? Last time I checked, that is serious shit. Beating off in your car? Who hasn’t done that? You? What are you? Gay?

There Are Worse People Out There

So this is Rachel Ann Hicks. She is 36 years old, she is the mother of 3, and she is a sexual predator. She befriend some 13 year old boy on Xbox Live, posing as a 23 year old hot chick, and then it got serious. NBC reports that friendly banter progressed into

phone calls, texts and emails that sometimes included Hicks sending the boy sexually explicit images and movies.”

She would then go to this boy’s house in Florida and have sex with him while his parents were sleeping. I’ll be honest with you, in my experience on Xbox Live I’ve met some really funny people. I’ve always met an army of 11 year old kids who need to shut the fuck up. Why the fuck do parents let their annoying ass children play VIOLENT or SEXUAL video games along side the likes of a sick fuck like myself, or in this case, Rachel Ann Hicks? Not saying that I would ever go bang a 13 year old. That shit gets you thrown in prison. However, I think it’s bullshit because this kid, although he is a minor and may not know the repercussions of sex, PROBABLY enjoyed what this woman did to him. You can make the argument that he’s a victim, but I bet his penis felt like it was getting a reward. Anyways, I AM IN NO WAY promoting sex with kids. I do promote people like Hicks going out of their way to find people like me who will have sex with anyone.

To all the hot women, teachers, mothers who for some reason choose to have sex with minors: I look like I’m 12. Hit me up.

Call of Duty: Modern Idiots

Being upset that Kobe Bryant or anyone made this commercial is ABSOLUTELY ABSURD. It’s a VIDEO GAME, it’s ENTERTAINMENT. He’s a role model? Yes and PARENTS SHOULD BE ROLE MODELS TOO. Here’s a crazy idea, don’t let your kids play fucking violent ass video games and then BLAME KOBE. Talk to them about violence, talk to them about war, don’t let Kobe inspire your kids to work hard like he does and then GET ANGRY when he does a COMICAL commercial about a VIDEO GAME. People are upset and offended? People should be upset and offended CHINA is going to RUN OUR COUNTRY in 20 years, THAT KIDS ARE STARVING, THAT AMERICA IS NOT IN THE TOP 10 FOR EDUCATION, not because KOBE BRYANT starred in a commercial (who HASN’T) about a VIDEO GAME. Ridiculous. Read the article by clicking on the source link below. People are throwing a tantrum over THIS. Where are people throwing tantrums over genocide or China’s oppression of people who have an opinion? Shut the fuck up.

Good News?

Looks like Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare rounded up the numbers and Japanese women have the longest life expectancy of 86.44 years. That’s pretty impressive. Japanese men came in 5th with 79.59 years. Unfortunately, Japan is seeing a huge decline in birth rates, implying that people are living forever and no one is replacing them. Not only will the elderly require more care, but there is no one to provide that care. Enter the robots. In 50 years, Japan may be an entire nation of robots. But if we’ve learned anything, they will be very attractive and sexually driven robots. Hong Kong men came in second with a life expectancy of 79.8 years. That’s good because I’m Chinese and Hong Kong will be completely given back to China in 50 years, just in time for my golden years.

Pop Quiz, Hot Shot

No matter how you cut it, it’s heart breaking. Dennis Hopper died May 29, 2010 at the age of 74, losing his long battle with prostate cancer. I will always remember him as the bad ass lunatic in Speed. I also thought he was amazing opposite Christopher Walken in Quentin Tarantino’s True Romance. His film Easy Rider, with Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson is recognized as an important piece of American history. His career was long and tough, he often found himself out of a job for years at a time, but he will always be remembered for his energy and playing characters to the beat of his own cannon.

Quality Men

Simply looking at Joe Francis’ face should give you a hint at how awesome he is. He’s known for owning the Girls Gone Wild company… or was he known for just being a gigantic asshole? Well, more recently, he attacked some of his own employees who were unhappy with his company. Oh, and they were pregnant. You know, like carrying a child pregnant.

After reading what was written on the phone Joe allegedly became furious. “Joe came back and physically attacked the female employee and another employee in the accounting department who was visibly pregnant,” the source said.
The police report states that it was a civil dispute with allegations of Francis “pushing” female employees who intended to distribute negative press material about Francis.
“Joe fired all involved employees even if they only viewed the attack,” the source continued. “The Santa Monica police were called and took statements.”

After reading more from one of my favorite gossip sites, The Superficial, it looks like Joe Francis is suing everyone who writes about this incident. Cool, I’ve never been contacted by representatives of a piece of shit rich person. We can only hope that I’m so lucky, right?
